The FINANCIAL — Starting on July 15 Iberia will offer its customers flights from Madrid to Sydney, under a new code-sharing arrangement with Australia’s Qantas airline. This is the first time the Spanish airline offers flights to Australia.
Iberia passengers can choose among three daily options for the Sydney flight, two via Heathrow in London, and one via Frankfurt, Germany.
"For the first flight via London, passengers depart from Madrid at 0845 h. and fly from Heathrow to Australia at 1215 h. local time, landing at Sydney at 1905 h. the following day. The other London option is to depart from Madrid at 1630 h. and take off for Sydney at 2215 h. London time, arriving in Australia at 0530 h. two days later," Iberia informs.
The Frankfurt connection involves leaving Madrid at 1600 h. or at 1955 h. and taking off with Qantas from Frankfurt at 2355 h., to arrive in Sydney at 0510 h. two days later.
The return flights leave Sydney for London at 1625 h. and 1700 h., arriving in Madrid at 1415 h. of the same day, and depart for Frankfurt at 1550 h., reaching Madrid at 1015 h. In Madrid passengers can make connections to 37 Spanish destinations, 17 in Latin America, 5 in the United States, and 9 in Africa and the Middle East.
The arrangement extends the options of Iberia customers and strengthens relations between Iberia and Qantas which, as partners in the oneworld airline alliance, already honour each others’ frequent flyers points and share the use of VIP lounges, among other privileges.
