The FINANCIAL — Due to the ban on grain exports, which operated in Russia since August 15, 2010, to June 30, 2011, in January-July 2011 Russia reduced wheat exports in almost 5 times to the level of 2.435 mln tonnes (605.2 mln USD) against 10.2 mln tonnes (1727.5 mln USD) in the same period last year, declared the Federal Customs Service on September 9.
In the current year the main export volume took place in July – the first month after termination of the ban. In the previous months Russia exported minor trade parties of grains, exports of which was resolved by special resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation (for the needs of embassies of the Russian Federation abroad, food aid for foreign countries, etc.).
Wheat import volumes to Russia also declined. According to data of the Federal Customs Service, during 7 months of the current year, the imports totaled 800 tonnes only (0.5 mln USD) against 74.1 thsd tonnes (11.2 mln USD) in the same period last year.
At the same time, export supplies of barley increased from the level of 0.5 thsd tonnes (0.2 mln USD) in January-July of last year to 286.6 thsd tonnes (106.4 mln USD) in the corresponding period of the current year, maize – from 30.5 thsd tonnes (447.9 mln USD) to 104.9 thsd tonnes (84.6 mln USD).
