The FINANCIAL — The production of hazelnuts is a strategically important export-oriented industry for Georgia. The country cultivates six varieties of hazelnut: common, bear, Pontic, Imereti, Kakheti and Colchis, according to APK-Inform.
The demand for Georgian nuts on the world market continues growing. According to the official statistics data, in January-June of 2015 the exports of hazelnuts from Georgia totaled 73.6 mln USD in monetary terms, up 163% compared with the same period last year (28.003 mln USD).
It should be noted that Georgia supplies hazelnuts to most European and Asian countries, including Ukraine, Russia, the Czech Republic, Italy, France, Spain, Iraq, etc.
