The FINANCIAL — According to the State Statistics Service, in January-March of 2017 the export of agricultural and food products from Ukraine totaled 4.6 bln USD in monetary terms, an increase of 1.3 bln USD (or, up almost 40%) compared with the 1st quarter last year, declared the Deputy Director on scientific work at the National scientific center “Institute of agrarian economy”, Nikolai Pugachev.
Three regions – the countries of Asia, Africa and the EU – remained the major sales markets. The reporting regions purchase nearly 90% of the supplies of Ukrainian agricultural products, the expert said.
Asian countries keep the leading positions in the imports of Ukrainian domestic agriproducts, which in January-March of 2017 purchased Ukrainian foodstuffs at 2 bln USD (43.5% of the exports). The European Union countries imported more than a quarter of domestic agricultural exports (28.3%), or 1.3 bln USD. The exports to Africa totaled 0.8 bln USD, or 17.4% of the general supplies of agricultural products, according to APK-Inform.
In the 1st quarter of 2017, India headed the rating of countries-importers of domestic agricultural products, and the sum reached 683 mln USD. Egypt took the second position – 455 mln USD. Also, Ukrainian exporters supplied significant volumes of products to Spain (297 mln USD), Iran (255 mln USD), Italy (228 mln USD), Turkey and the Netherlands (226 mln USD each).
N.Pugachev added that grains (corn and wheat), oilseeds (mainly soybeans), vegetable oils (mainly sunflower oil) and food industry products held the dominant positions in the structure of domestic agricultural-food exports. Their general share in agricultural exports exceeds 90%. At the same time, all reporting product segments demonstrated a growth of export earnings compared with January-March of 2016.
