Indonesia’s XL Launches Cloud Network Transformation with Huawei

The FINANCIAL — PT XL AXIATA TBK (XL) recently announced that Huawei has won the bid for its NFV EPC project. As Indonesia’s Top3 mobile operator, XL will transform its cloud network architecture. Huawei’s NFV-based CloudEdge solution is tailored to XL’s transition requirements and will help XL build a cloud infrastructure network which is flexible, agile, and open.

With the largest population in Southeast Asia, Indonesia has 240 million people and a fiercely competitive market over 7 operators. In 2015, XL have commercial launched its LTE network, with the rapid growth of traffic and subscribers, XL becomes the Top3 local operator today. Under the background of increasing maturity of NFV technology, XL have developed the strategies of reconfigure and fully digitize its network for the ultimate user experience, according to Huawei.

Huawei’s initiative in matching these transformation strategies has helped the CloudEdge solution gain approval as the winning bid. This NFV project will benefit XL in the following ways:

A more elastic network. Network capacity can be flexibly configured to different application scenarios. Together with deployment of functions on demand, network equipment deployment is now much more efficient.

More agile services. A unified integration, orchestration, and management platform lets operators assemble customized self-operating services with third-party applications. This flexibility facilitates expansion into vertical markets.

A more open pipeline: Opening and integrating cloud-based capabilities enables operators to innovate their business model with large data pipelines for win-win industry partnerships that include OTT providers.
