The FINANCIAL — On 16 March 2017, the first ever high-level political consultations took place in Maputo, between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique.
H.E. Mr. David Jalagania headed the Delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. H.E. Mr. Beka Dvali, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Mozambique (with residence in Pretoria) also participated in the talks. Her Excellency Ms. Nyeleti Brooke Mondlane, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation headed the delegation of the Republic of Mozambique.
During the political consultations, the two delegations exchanged views on the political and economic situation in Georgia, in Mozambique and in the respective regions. They discussed the prospects of developing legal base between the two countries as well as the issues of deepening political dialogue, cooperation and mutual support in bilateral format and within multilateral frameworks. The delegations reflected in detail on the topics of cooperation in trade, tourism, agriculture, education, culture, youth, sports and other areas.
Both sides emphasized that Georgia and Mozambique will intensify bilateral relations, first and foremost, based on and in compliance with the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, including the mutual respect of the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of States. It was agreed that the next round of high-level political consultations would take place in 2018 in Georgia. In addition, both parties will also continue efforts to facilitate the exchange of high-level visits, according to MFA of Georgia.
On 16 March, H.E. Mr. David Jalagania, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and the Georgian Delegation also held a meeting with His Excellency Silva Dunduro, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Mozambique. The prospects of Georgia-Mozambique cooperation in the areas of culture and tourism were discussed during the meeting.
In the framework of the visit, Deputy Foreign Minister and the Delegation of Georgia also held a meeting with Mr. Antonio Dengo Muhau, designated as Honorary Consul of Georgia to the Republic of Mozambique. The avenues of facilitating Georgia-Mozambique relations through facilitation of the Honorary Consul of Georgia to Mozambique were explored during the meeting.
