The FINANCIAL — A meeting has been held in Tbilisi to discuss regional cross-border electricity trade and steps for attracting investments in the development of this area.
The meeting brought together state officials from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Russia and Turkey as well as the EU-funded INOGATE energy programme, and representatives from international organisations, according to EU Neighbourhood Info Centre.
The development of regional energy markets allows electricity and gas to be traded easily across borders, moving from where it is produced to where it is needed and also to reduce price volatility.
An INOGATE expert outlined the current status of technical assistance provided to INOGATE Partner countries for improving cross-border energy trade and cooperation across three regional markets – Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia.
