The FINANCIAL — Analysis of the export geography of grains from Ukraine during 5 recent seasons shows that Iran is one of the key countries-importers. For example, in 2011/12 MY the country received more than 1.8 mln tonnes of Ukrainian grains, or 8.5% of the general exports from Ukraine, and 30% of its grain import structure in the reporting marketing year (6 mln tonnes).
In the following years, Iran continued systematically increasing its grain import volumes, which in 2014/15 MY reached the level of 14.7 mln tonnes. But due to some diversification of import supplies, the share of Ukrainian grains in the import structure dropped to 10%, or 1.4 mln tonnes in absolute terms, according to APK-Inform.
The USDA experts forecast a significant decrease (down 33%) of grain imports to Iran in the current season, to 9.8 mln tonnes. Therefore, in the beginning of the season the exports of Ukrainian grains to the country also decreased. At the same time, taking into account the existing experience of cooperation and the export potential of Ukraine, the market has several serious factors for recovery of grain trading rates.
You will be able to discuss further development of the situation in the region directly with representatives of the largest players of the Iranian market, which visit the 2nd international conference Middle East Grain Congress.
As a reminder, the conference takes place in Radisson Blu Hotel Dubai Deira Creek 5, Dubai, the UAE, on February 23, 2016. APK-Inform Agency is the conference organizer.
