The FINANCIAL — JLL, a financial services firm specialising in the real estate sector, has secured LEED Platinum Certification – the highest rating possible – in the Commercial Interiors category for its corporate headquarters located at Paseo de la Castellana 79, in the heart of Madrid’s financial district.
This is JLL’s eighth such certification, along with JLL sites in Philadelphia and San Diego in the USA, Mumbai in India, Taipei in Taiwan, Hong Kong in China, Berlin in Germany, and Warsaw in Poland. This recognition reinforces JLL’s commitment towards maximising its capabilities to reduce the impact of the real estate industry on the environment.
Leadership in Energy Environmental Design (LEED) is a voluntary certification system for sustainable buildings developed by the US Green Building Council, which provides independent verification for buildings designed and built following strategies aimed at obtaining highly efficient assets in terms of water and energy use, atmospheric emissions, materials and resources, sustainability and indoor environmental quality.
The sustainable design of JLL’s offices has generated savings of around 20% in electricity and water use, thanks to the optimisation of air conditioning and internal lighting systems, the installation of low-power regulators and the use of energy-saving lighting, according to JLL.
Other factors that are taken into consideration when awarding the certification include the use of recyclable materials, lighting and ventilation control systems, a waste management system and efficiently designed space.
The building has been home to JLL’s corporate headquarters since September 2014. The interior was designed by Tétris, JLL’s design and construction division.
