The FINANCIAL — On February 16 RedBull, the well-known international energy drink, organized the King of Bob competition in Gudauri, the popular Georgian ski resort.
“The main goal of the event was to make students’ lives more interesting and unusual, to make their everyday life more colourful,” Beka Goletiani, event organizer, told The FINANCIAL.
The competition in downhill speed on the bobs was first held in Austria in 2001. Since then the event has been successfully held in many countries, such as Finland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Slovenia, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
Participating in the event were 64 students of the largest universities of Georgia, who had registered a week before the event took place.
“The winner, Giorgi Khvadagiani, a student from the Medical University, was awarded a USD 300 check and bought a music system with his prize money. He also received a special diploma from the company and two boxes of Red Bull,” stated Goletiani.
The Races and Award ceremony was accompanied by music from DJ Gio Shengelia and MC Chele.
Red Bull is the brand name of an energy drink that originated in Thailand and, in a version adapted to Austrian tastes, is now popular throughout the world.
“The focus segment of Red Bull is mainly youth and that’s why we organized that welcome surprising event for Georgian students. It is the third year for Red Bull in the country and the energy drink is attracting more and more of the local population,” said Goletiani.
The drink is meant to taste like beer and chocolate, and is commonly used as mixer in alcoholic drinks such as vodka and is the base ingredient in the now famous Jägerbomb and Remytini. Almost 1 billion of the slim 250 ml cans were sold in 2000 in over 100 countries, 260 million of them in the UK. In 2006, more than 3 billion cans were sold in over 130 countries. 3,903 employees generated 2.6 billion EUR in turnover.
