The FINANCIAL — Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze started his official visit to the Republic of Latvia with a meeting with Latvian Minister for Economics, Vice Prime Minister Arvils Ašeradens, who held a working dinner for the Georgian Foreign Minister.
The two sides positively assessed the existing friendly relations and active co-operation between the countries in different sectors, putting particular emphasis on the increasing dynamics of co-operation in the sphere of economy, according to MFA of Georgia.
It was underlined that the development of trade-economic relations between the two countries represents one of the main directions. According to Arvils Ašeradens, the trade turnover with Georgia increased by 10% compared to the same period of last year. The introduction of the deep and comprehensive free trade area with the EU provided additional opportunities in bilateral trade relations.
Mikheil Janelidze and Arvils Ašeradens agreed to share experiences in trade-economic and trade directions, inter alia, in creation of the business startup effective mechanism. The Latvian side expressed the readiness to share its experience with Georgia of participating in the EU economic and financial programmes and effective use of these opportunities.
The two Ministers discussed regional projects, giving an opportunity to use transport and transit potential of the both countries and underlined the importance of a new Silk Road.
The Georgian Foreign Minister spoke about the Prime Minister’s four-point reform package envisaging the improvement of business environment, tax reform, promotion of business, reforms in the education sector and formation of a more effective governance system.
In the frames of the visit to the Republic of Latvia, Mikheil Janelidze will meet his Latvian counterpart and the Speaker of the Saeima. The Foreign Ministers of the two countries will open the Latvia-Georgia Business Forum.
