The FINANCIAL — Lexus International announced the signing of a three year sponsorship of professional golfer Hideki Matsuyama that will take effect on January 1, 2014, according to Toyota Motor Corporation.
Since turning professional in April, 21-year-old Matsuyama has already achieved an impressive record, becoming the first rookie to top the winnings list and the second to win four tournaments in a year on the Japan Golf Tour. Much is expected of this young golfer on the world stage as he takes on the U.S. PGA tour next year.
"We're very proud to have Hideki representing Lexus. His dedication to his craft mirrors the Lexus approach, and we share with him the drive to get out there and perform at our very best, every time. His form exemplifies our slogan, 'Amazing in Motion'," said Lexus International Executive Vice President Mark Templin, head of global sales and marketing.
"I'm delighted to have entered this partnership with Lexus. Lexus established itself in the highly competitive U.S. luxury market and is now competing around the world. I find this encouraging as I enter the U.S. PGA next year, and just like Lexus, I'll give my all in the global competition," Matsuyama said.
The sponsorship enables Lexus to use Matsuyama's name and likeness in its global marketing promotions, while Matsuyama will be provided with a range of support including transport vehicles on domestic and international tours. Matsuyama will wear the Lexus logo on his clothing and cap as he participates in all tournaments.
Lexus sponsors a number of professional golfers, including in the United States, and also carries out global activities to support the work of up-and-coming designers, artists, film directors and craftspeople.
