The FINANCIAL – -Llangoed Hall, the country house hotel in Brecon, Powys, founded by Sir Bernard Ashley of the Laura Ashley empire, has been formally put on the market after going into administration three months ago.
According to Caterer and Hotelkeeper, until the 23-bedroom property was taken over by administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers last November, Llangoed Hall was one of only two hotels still owned by Andrew Davis, the founder of Von Essen Hotels, which went into administration in April with debts of nearly £300m.
Set in 15 acres of gardens and grounds in the Wye Valley, the Grade II-listed hotel dates back to 1632. It comprises the Bothy, which includes offices, a flat, a textile factory, warehouse space, storage and a shop. There is also a helicopter hangar and a five-bedroom lodge as well as extensive car parking.
Llangoed Hall was bought in 2010 by Von Essen Hotels following Sir Bernard's death. The acquisition included Sir Bernard's private art collection, incorporating 20 original James Whistler drawings.
Property agent Savills is marketing the sale of Llangoed Hall and is looking for best offers.
