The FINANCIAL — Paolo Surico, Associate Professor of Economics at London Business School, has been awarded a research grant of £690,462 (€957,089) on a competitive basis from the European Research Council (ERC).
The grant has been awarded to fund a three-year research programme on ‘Uncertainty, Risk and Inequality: The Role of Macroeconomic Policies and Institutions’, according to LSE.
Dr Surico’s research will look at the impact of uncertainty about taxes and inflation on consumer spending, in particular how the formation of households can reduce consumption inequality across and within generations. Another strand of work will look at how competition in the mortgage market has changed the transmission of monetary policy.
In response to the grant, Dr Surico said: “I am humbled by this further outside recognition of my work and look forward to beginning to study this new very exciting research area.”
The award was made under the ERC’s Consolidator Grant Scheme. The ERC’s main aim is to stimulate scientific excellence by supporting and encouraging the very best and truly creative scientists, scholars and engineers to be adventurous and take risks in their research.
This is the second ERC research grant Dr Surico has been awarded; previously he received funding under the ERC Starting Grant Scheme.
