The FINANCIAL — Ninety-seven per cent of this year’s Masters in Management (MiM) graduates from London Business School secured employment within three months of completing the programme, according to figures released on February 26.
Lara Berkowitz, Executive Director, Career Services, London Business School, explained the School’s success: “Our Masters in Management graduates are the very best in the market, with a tremendous 97% of the class securing employment within three months of graduation. It’s fantastic to see our graduates venturing into organisations in 32 cities in 28 countries across the world, as it underpins our vision to have a profound impact on the way the world does business.”
On graduation almost half of the 2014 class (47%) pursued their careers outside the UK, accepting roles around the world from Beijing to Beirut, Toronto to Singapore and Shanghai to Kuala Lumpur. Twenty four percent of graduates found employment in Europe (excluding the UK), 15% in Asia, 5% in the Middle East and Africa and 2% in the Americas. Their average starting salary was £36,295, according to London Business School.
“We believe in developing strong and lasting relationships with our global network of recruiters”, continued Berkowitz. “Recruitment fairs, Business Immersion Week and international career treks offer a wealth of opportunities for potential employers to engage with our community, and forge close ties with the School.”
The graduating class, comprising 152 students from 35 different countries, went into Corporate Sectors (35%), Finance (34%) and Consulting (31%). Graduates securing employment within Corporate Sectors took up roles in internet/e-commerce (7%), consumer products (6%), and media and entertainment (5%), among others. Six graduates started up their own businesses in 2015, following in the footsteps of successful MiM alumni who have founded SunEos, Allan Baudoin and Simply Cook in the last five years.
The School strengthened its ties in Asia further this year, with the inaugural Global Immersion Field Trip to Shanghai, an opportunity for graduates to extend their understanding of how business cultures differ around the world. In 2014, the School joined together with Shanghai’s Fudan School of Management to launch a two-year, double degree, the Global Masters in Management. Starting in September, 40 students will spend two years studying and working in the UK and China, gaining insight into both Western and Eastern business practices, according to London Business School.
In addition to core management studies – accounting, economics, financial management, marketing, leadership and organisations, strategy, and management analysis and systems – our MiM2014’s piloted our specially designed MiM electives this year. Entrepreneurial Management and Corporate Finance and Capital Markets each showcase the depth and quality of our faculty research. The success of both electives has resulted in them being rolled out to the 2015 class, allowing our students to tailor their London Business School experience to their career aspirations and interests.
