The FINANCIAL — Women working in the companies questioned by The FINANCIAL say the average sum they spend on themselves is 400-500 GEL a month.
Expenses related to everyday care, clothes, jewellery and fitness is almost twice as high for women than it is for men. Women say that their appearance affects whether they are taken seriously, asked to represent their company at meetings outside of the office, and considered for raises and promotions.
Nino Cholokashvili, working as a Senior Consultant at TBSC Consulting, says that looking good makes her feel more confident and helps her keep up good relations with society.
“I spend about 200-300 GEL on buying clothes every month, 100 GEL on cosmetics and 100 GEL on physical training. I am a member of one of Tbilisi’s fitness clubs and do Yoga there. It helps me to feel relaxed and keeps me in good physical shape,” Cholokashvili says.
“The amount of money I spend on my appearance totals about 400-500 GEL every month. I am not a very frequent visitor to beauty salons. Getting manicures and pedicures costs me about 50 GEL every month and 50-100 GEL is the amount I spend on different cosmetics,” says Keti Kvlividze, working in one of the insurance companies of Georgia.
“Every woman should take care of herself, but working women especially so. I myself think that if you look good, you are guaranteed success in what you do. I’m not the only one who believes that sometimes one’s appearance is the number one priority in becoming successful in your career. I always do my best to look good, because I feel a certain responsibility in this respect to the people with whom I have every day relations,” Kvlividze says.
“The total amount that I spend every month on my appearance cannot be precisely calculated; it might sometimes be more and at other times less. I usually spend more money on buying clothes and cosmetics. The average sum that is spent on my appearance every month would be 500-600 GEL,” says Mariam Chubinidze, one of the Producers of Morning Programmes on 1 Channel.
“As I work in the television business, I always have to look my best. A pleasing appearance always leads to success and that’s why I try to pay much attention to mine,” Chubinidze told The FINANCIAL.
Ella Karapetyan, Director of BusinessTravelCom, prefers to buy clothes abroad rather than here. In order to keep fit she regularly goes to the swimming pool and does physical exercising in the Courtyard Marriott hotel, where she pays 236 GEL every month.
According to Ella Karapetyan, meeting people every day is a part of her job and she says that she does her best in order to look good. She says that every woman, no matter whether they are busy or not, should care about looking after themselves.
“I don’t think that I necessarily buy new clothes every month, I might sometimes buy a lot in one go and then not again for the next one to two months. I prefer to buy clothes abroad, but when it comes to Georgia I shop in Mango, Cotton and Mexx stores,” Karapetyan says.
All of the women inquired by The FINANCIAL say that busy women who have to work hard and have everyday relations with many people must look their best.
“It’s not a matter of whether you have much money or not, if a woman wants to look good she will manage, even on a tight budget. There are many ways to look good without spending a lot of cash and I think every woman knows that. I myself have to meet many people during the course of a work day and feel obliged to care about my appearance at all times,” Cholokashvili says.
A haircut at Ici Paris’ salons costs 45 GEL for women. An everyday makeover costs around 35 GEL, evening makeover – 45 GEL, and festive makeover – 60 GEL.
Nino Jlantiashvili, who is the Manager of one of the most popular beauty salons in Georgia – Ici Paris, says that women in Georgia really like to look good. Ici Paris beauty salons are very popular with women, most of all with businesswomen.
“Our beauty salons are very popular and many people visit us as we offer many facilities to help women look their best. We provide hair appointments, pedicures and manicures, makeovers, relaxing massages and more. I believe that these things really help women to be successful in their everyday lives as well as in their careers,” Jlantiashvili says.
According to The National Network for Women’s Employment, a new poll finds that nearly seven in ten Americans (69 percent) and more than eight in ten women say clothing, hair and makeup are very or extremely important for a woman on the job, and for her confidence.
