The FINANCIAL — The National Centre of Manuscripts together with TBC Bank organized an evening dedicated to love letters from the XVIII-XIXth centuries. This evening was devoted to recreating the romantic atmosphere of the XIXth century led by famous Georgian writers’ revealed love letters to their wives.
Georgian poet Rati Amaglobeli hosted this lovely evening and actor Murman Jinoria, with a great sense of romance, read the letters of famous Georgian people.
“TBC bank has been planning to organize this kind of event since May 2008. At first we had the desire to hold the exhibition in our Signagi branch, but we managed to exhibit the love letters in the Marjanishvili branch. The National Centre of Manuscripts has done a great job for revealing the love letters of famous Georgian people,” Natia Gotsadze, representative of TBC Bank, declares.
“In the National Centre of Manuscripts we have very interesting archival materials. With the help of this exhibition people are able to see materials which usually aren’t easily reachable for them. People become familiar with the emotions and feelings of great Georgian people and this is very attractive for them,” Buba Kudava, Director of the National Centre of Manuscripts, told The FINANCIAL.
The National Centre of Manuscripts is an important depository of ancient manuscripts, books and historical documents in Georgia. It was founded on 30 June 1958 on the initiative of Professor Ilia Abuladze.
The unique collection, preserved in the centre of manuscripts, involves many branches and spheres: history, geography, travel, law, dictionaries, medicinal books, belles-lettres, biblical texts, hagiography, church law, philosophy, astrology, mathematics, military texts, etc.
Up to 60,000 Georgian and foreign books in the Humanities are preserved in the principal funds of the library.
“In the National Centre of Manuscripts more than 200 famous people’s private archival materials are kept. The work we have done was quite hard but therefore very pleasurable. Love letters of Famous Georgian writer Ivane Javakhishvili and his wife, Ilia Chavchavadze to his wife Olga Guramishvili and letters of Konstantine Gamsakhurdia written in address to his wife were presented on the evening. These letters were full of passion and sensitivity,” Tamar Gegia Deputy Director of the National Centre of Manuscripts, says.
“It was a great pleasure for me to read the letters of the most adored and famous Georgian writers. While reading the love letter of Ivane Javakhishvili dedicated to his wife, people had the chance to get acquainted with the person who has a big sense of romance and sensitivity. Unfortunately nowadays we have a lack of romance in Georgia. On this evening we had the opportunity to go back to the past and recall the romantic feelings of our ancestors,” Murman Jinoria, well known Georgian actor, told The FINANCIAL.
“We have been guests of a very beautiful and pleasurable epoch. We were able to see famous Georgian writers Ilia Chavchavadze, Ivane Javakhishvili and Konstantine Gamsakhurdia in different lights. The personalities of these great people were revealed while reading the sensitive love letters written for their wives,” Georgian Poet Rati Amaglobeli declares.
“This was a special evening where we were able to go back to the past and feel the real sense of romance. Culture is what people should never forget, most especially in Georgia where we have a very long history of culture. These love letters were mirrors of Georgian famous people’s souls. I am very proud to be a descendant of Konstantine Gamsaxurdia. His letters to his wife talk about his great personality and sense of romance,” Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, Politician and Grandson of famous Georgian writer Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, declares.
The officials of TBC bank and the National Centre of Manuscripts say that it’s the third time they have held an event together. Their relationship will hopefully continue.
“The collaboration of the Center of Manuscripts and TBC Bank will be continued in the future,” Buba Kudava says.
