The FINANCIAL — August was a busy month for LSE in China, with the School hosting its annual LSE-PKU Summer School and graduation ceremony, as well as several careers fairs and pre-departure events to welcome new students to the School in six cities.
This year’s Summer School with Peking University (PKU) ran for two weeks from 10 to 21 August 2015. LSE academics Danny Quah (International Development and Economics), Mick Cox (International Relations), Yao Qiwei (Statistics), Meng Bingchun (Media and Communications), Timothy Hildebrandt (Social Policy), Xu Moqi (Finance), Mayling Birney (International Development), Hyun Shin (Geography and Environment), and Fei Qin (Management) taught with PKU colleagues on 15 courses with 300 students enrolled from 50 countries, according to LSE.
LSE also held its sixth LSE Graduation Ceremony in Beijing on 18 August, with new graduands receiving their degrees from LSE Pro-Director for Teaching and Learning, Professor Paul Kelly.
Telling the China Story: media and communications in a turbulent age was the theme of the fifth annual LSE China Conference, which hosted over 300 Friends and Alumni of LSE in Beijing. Media practitioners from China’s major media outlets participated alongside academics from LSE, Peking University and Renmin University, as well as Pulitzer prize winning journalist and China correspondent David Barboza from the New York Times.
LSE’s China Careers Fairs, now in their tenth year, provided opportunities for recent LSE alumni and graduates to meet with potential employers from a broad range of industry sectors. The fairs have been held in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong since 2006. This year also saw the addition of a Careers Forum in the city of Shenzhen.
With students from China now making up the largest group of international students at LSE, the LSE China Alumni Association organised pre-departure events for new students in six cities this year, including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chengdu, and Chongqing.
