The FINANCIAL — PARIS, A lucky lottery player from France's Mediterranean coast beat about 40 million other hopefuls to win 100 million euros ($147.1 million) in a European jackpot, the largest lottery payout ever made in the country, national media said.
Residents of nine European countries (France, Spain, Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Austria, Ireland and the U.K.) play the Euro Millions lottery but the French man was the only one to pick the winning combination of numbers.
France's previous lottery jackpot record was 76 million euros.
