The FINANCIAL — Sailing enthusiasts watched as Lloyd’s yacht, Lutine, sailed through London Bridge to return to her spiritual home, near the Lloyd’s building.
The visit marks the start of an important year for the Lutine as she, along with her many crew members from across the insurance market will be taking part in a number of races and events. The Lutine will be in London until Wednesday 18 May.
Lloyd’s Yacht Club Commodore, Liz Lotz, says “We are delighted to have Lutine back in London and to be able to further encourage sailing across the London insurance market. After London she kicks off the race season, first in Burnham and then back down to the Solent for a number of one offs ahead of Cowes Week and then the Fastnet race organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club in August.”
Lloyd’s has a long history of clubs and societies open to interested market participants. The Yacht Club was setup in 1938 and was formed by five members who raced to Cherbourg, with the idea of forming a club being discussed over dinner on their arrival.
Originally membership was restricted to Members of Lloyd’s and those who had a ticket to work in the room. Today, club members come from across the financial service industry.
