The FINANCIAL — A Malaysian pilot is aiming to set a world record of being the youngest pilot to fly 14,000 nautical miles solo around the world in 50 days.
James Anthony Tan, who will turn 22 in June, is planning to fly to 20 countries, with 30 pit stops.
Berita Harian reported that Tan would start his journey on the Cessna P210, a single piston aircraft, on March 23, the Nation reports.
As Malaysia Sun said, the event is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
According to the report, Tan said that he wanted to be a pilot since he was five years old, after he saw a jet fighter flying 90 degrees while he was on a Boeing 747 flight from Kuala Lumpur to Britain.
Tan believed that the only way to gain experience was by travelling around the world, the report added.
