The FINANCIAL — Malmaison is to open a 91-bedroom hotel in Dundee, as part of the second-largest regeneration project in Scotland,according to Caterer and Hotelkeeper.
The new 91-bedroom Malmaison Dundee is being created on the site of the old Tay Hotel, a listed city-centre landmark building, and forms part of the £1b Dundee Central Waterfront Development, which includes a new £45m V&A museum.
Malmaison, which is to take a 35-year FRI lease with an option to extend for a further 35 years, is working closely with the developer on the project, MEC Services. The hotel is expected to be completed by May 2013 and will create 120 new jobs.
Gary Davis, who replaced Robert Cook as chief executive of the MWB-owned Malmaison and Hotel du Vin brands last week, described the Dundee hotel as a "fantastic" project.
Malmaison Dundee, which will become the 13th hotel within the group, will be the first Malmaison to open since the launch of Malmaison Aberdeen in November 2008.
