The FINANCIAL — The President of Georgia, H.E. Giorgi Margvelashvili has held a meeting with members of the European Youth Parliament and discussed tolerance, Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration, Russian-Georgian relations, and occupation of Georgia.
President Margvelashvili has talked through importance of the International Day for Tolerance and noted that Georgians have always been proud of their past and history that is jointly made by people of diverse nationalities and religions, according to the Administration of the President of Georgia.
According to President Margvelashvili, a prominent example of Georgian tolerance is a several centuries long Georgian-Jewish relation; there is not a single incident of oppression or violation of Jewish people’s rights.
“I am addressing future leaders, the next generation who are ready and eager to determine the future of own countries, Europe and the entire civilization.
The International Day for Tolerance is extremely significant for building a contemporary and powerful society. It is important people to put efforts in protecting rights and freedoms of others. No matter what we do, we should always remember that our main task and aim is to defend freedoms of others. You cannot be free unless you protect other people’s freedoms; the freedoms of those people that are around you and with whom you coexist.
You have to protest when someone is oppressed. Your task should be to protect rights and freedoms of citizens through your daily activities; and any chance that you miss in this regard will trigger ending your leadership,” President Margvelashvili said while addressing the youth.
Members of the European Youth Parliament have shown interest in the procedures of obtaining Georgian citizenship, benefits that Georgia gains through the country’s membership in the European Union, opportunities that Georgia opens up for Europe, and Georgia’s current socio-economic and political situation as a challenge for the European Union.
