The FINANCIAL — Marriott International was recognized as #9, up four spots from last year, on the 2016 DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity, making it the highest-ranking hotel company on the list. The company was also ranked on specialty lists for its LGBT (#3), recruitment (#10) and supplier diversity (#12) efforts.
The rankings are determined by an objective methodology that calculates factors such as Talent Pipeline, Equitable Talent Development (including commitments to mentorship and philanthropy), CEO/Leadership Commitment, and Supplier Diversity. The empirical data for the rankings is provided by a 300-question survey filled out by personnel at the participating companies, according to Marriott.
“Our core value of ‘putting people first’ is fundamental to our culture of inclusion,” David Rodriguez, Executive Vice President and Global Chief Human Resources Officer. “Taking care of our associates is what propels our company’s success; this recognition underscores our commitment to an inclusive and supportive environment that fosters opportunities for our associates, guests, owners and suppliers.”
Marriott has consistently championed diversity and inclusion. The company has been recognized for its talent development programs in the past and has landed on several “Best Places to Work” lists. Previous awards include LATINA Style Company of the Year, National Association for Female Executives Top 10 Companies for Executive Women, DiversityInc Top 50 Companies, 100 percent score on Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index, and World’s Best Multinational Workplaces as named by Great Place to Work.
