The FINANCIAL — NY — Thanks to its cardholders, MasterCard reached its goal of raising $4 million for Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) through its Priceless Causes program almost three weeks ahead of the campaign’s scheduled end date of September 15. MasterCard will present the fundraising contribution to SU2C on-field during the 2014 MLB World Series this fall, according to MasterCard.
MasterCard’s 2014 fundraising campaign for SU2C, an initiative of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) that raises funds for innovative cancer research, kicked off at the beginning of July. During the campaign, MasterCard made a one cent donation to SU2C when U.S. cardholders spent $10 or more for a meal using their MasterCard cards, up to $4 million (U.S.). Cardholders were also provided with additional opportunities to Stand Up To Cancer when sitting down for a meal, generating an additional $16,750 in donations:
“Priceless Table” in Times Square: Just over 300 cardholders booked seats at the Priceless Table, located twenty-five feet above the city streets in mid-town Manhattan. Diners enjoyed a five course, world class menu – curated by celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson – while looking out over the neon lights of Broadway.
Pop-Up Dinner: At the Beverly Canon Gardens in Beverly Hills, over 200 cardholders were treated to an exquisite dining experience under the stars with a prix fixe menu prepared by celebrity chef Susan Feniger.
“The Priceless Causes platform is a great example of how we’re focused on uniting people around social initiatives to meaningfully impact a cause that is personal for so many of us,” said Raja Rajamannar, chief marketing officer, MasterCard. “Cancer shows no demographic or geographic prejudice, which is why we’ve continued our partnership with Stand Up To Cancer in the U.S. and have started to expand it around the world.”
“By aligning this powerful cause with an everyday activity that consumers are already enjoying – the simple act of dining out – MasterCard has been able to raise millions of dollars for Stand Up To Cancer,” said Sue Schwartz, Stand Up To Cancer co-founder. “This support is critical to furthering SU2C’s collaborative cancer research programs and helping us achieve our mission of saving more lives from this awful disease that directly affects one in two men and one in three women in their lifetimes,” Schwartz added.
