The FINANCIAl — The evolution and expansion of international arbitration in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) will be the focus of a major ICC conference to take place in the region next month, according to ICC.
Organized under the auspices of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, the gathering is an unrivalled opportunity for users and practitioners of the popular dispute resolution technique to keep pace with the latest arbitration news and developments in the MENA region and to engage in topical discussions with some of the world’s leading arbitration experts.
The conference will take place in English and Arabic – with simultaneous interpretation – at the Park Hyatt hotel in Dubai from10-12 March 2014.
From analysing recent state court arbitration decisions in various MENA jurisdictions to examining current issues and potential pitfalls in arbitrating energy disputes involving MENA parties, ICC’s 2nd Annual Conference on International Arbitration in the Middle East and North Africa offers insight from a line-up of first-rate speakers and panellists, according to ICC.
The two-day conference will be preceded by a new full-day advanced level training on how to draft enforceable awards. Featuring hands-on working groups and a mock Court session, the training will provide valuable guidance on how to avoid a “copy and paste” approach to drafting awards, improving both their quality and enforceability. As well as discovering how legal systems and traditions can have an influence on drafting techniques, participants will also gain insight into the International Court of Arbitration’s scrutiny of all draft awards – a distinctive feature of ICC Arbitration.
