The FINANCIAL — Tbilisi. Microsoft is making step to protect consumers: to ensure their safety while buying computers or softwares, providing additional security against cyber attacks and risks. Company Microsoft has organized meeting with representatives of different retail networks and distribution companies in Georgia.
The aim was to agree on distribution of licensed softwares of Microsoft, also encouraging consumers to buy licensed programs only. This will allow customers of retailers participating in the agreement (AltaOK, Smiley, Metromart, Elit Electronics, Aray Tomorow, PC Shop, Comp Shop) to buy products with confidence, knowing that products purchased are secure, licensed and fully legal.
«Such initiatives underline that the local market is civilized. Our company uses legal steps only to build its business», commented Kakha Tchovelidze, General Director of Alta. «We understand the risks facing consumers buying low cost unlicensed softwares. Or what might be a result of using cracked programs. At least this is associated with loss of valuable information, instability of PC performance, more chances for cyber attacks.

«Consumers must be aware of risks associated with use of illegal softwares. Many of such programs include viruses monitoring computers and data kept in them. Pirate companies spend up to 30 000 USD of their goals and progress», said Dimitri Berentsev, Director of Licensed Softwares Asset Manager in CIS countries.
In order to fight piracy, Microsoft recommends to use legal softwares only. Company regularly organizes Corporate Safety trainings for its staff. It also uses special softwares and equipment for data protection.
According to the Microsoft’s Cybercrime Center, 80% of European population was associated with cybercrime in the past. 97,5% of large and medium companies in Europe were victims of cyberattack.
In 2015 loss caused by cyberattacks consisted to 159 billion USD, according to Symantec. The same source said more than 159 billion people became victims of cybercrime.
