The FINANCIAL — On 6 July 2016, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze addressed the 13th OSCE South Caucasus Media Conference.
In his speech, the Minister highlighted the reforms carried out recently in terms of media freedom in Georgia, the successful co-operation with the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media and underlined that the country is ready to improve and strengthen media environment in compliance with the their international commitments. Â Â
Mikheil Janelidze underlined the importance of the Conference, which represents the particular platform and unites the international experts, journalists, officials and academicians, who are provided with an opportunity to exchange information and share the experience in terms of developing freedom of the media.
The Minister also underlined that Georgia is pleased to welcome this Conference and to continue supporting media-related issues in the future as well, according to MFA of Georgia.
Mikheil Janelidze focused on the activities carried out by the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media with a view to promoting freedom of the media in the region.
In the frames of the Conference, the Georgian Foreign Minister held a bilateral meeting with OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović. Discussions focused on the co-operation with the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media and the media-related current processes.
Dunja Mijatović underlined that Georgia is one of the leading countries within the OSCE in terms of freedom of the media and that the Office of the OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media welcomes the progress Georgia has achieved in this direction.
