The FINANCIAL — Within the framework of his official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze held a meeting with representatives of the Diaspora organizations in Germany. During the meeting Mikheil Janelidze spoke about priority areas of Georgia-Germany relations.
The Minister highlighted Germany’s important role and contribution to the development of Georgia since the restoration of independence. He singled out for special mention the technical and financial assistance Germany has rendered to Georgia over the past years. According to the Minister, Germany is the second largest donor of Georgia. Special mention was taken of the importance of co-operation in the area of education, especially in terms of the increasing number of German scholarships granted to Georgian students, according to MFA of Georgia.
Mikheil Janelidze extensively spoke about the diaspora strategy with a slogan “United and strong diaspora with close links with the homeland”
According to the Minister, it is the first strategy on Diaspora, which is oriented towards concrete projects promoting the active involvement of diaspora representatives in the development of the country, helping them improve their status in the host countries and promote Georgia and its potential abroad. The Parliament of Georgia, experts groups, international organizations and diapspora representatives are involved in the ongoing discussions over the strategy in order to ensure that diaspora needs and the ways to strengthen their position internationally are duly reflected in the document.
