The FINANCIAL — Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze held a traditional meeting with the Ambassadors of the EU member states accredited to Georgia.
Talking points included the parliamentary elections held in the country. The Ambassadors once again underlined that the elections were held in a democratic and competitive environment.Â
Discussions focused on the priorities of the EU-Georgia co-operation and on the role of the EU member states’ support for Georgia’s visa liberalisation with the EU, according to MFA of Georgia.
The decision of the Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union (COREPER) to give a green light to Georgians’ visa-free travel was particularly underlined.
The Ambassadors congratulated Georgia for conducting democratic and competitive elections and underlined that these elections were just another step towards consolidation of democracy. Â
The Georgian Foreign Minister thanked the EU institutions and international observers for active involvement in the process of the parliamentary elections. Mikheil Janelidze also focused on the European partners’ statement backing Georgia and once again expressed the readiness of the Government to ensure the conduction of the second tour of the elections in a democratic and competitive environment.
