The FINANCIAL — Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze and Minister of State for External Affairs of the Republic of India M. J. Akbar expressed the readiness to actively co-operate in the development of relations between their countries.
Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze and Minister of State for External Affairs of the Republic of India Mobashar Jawad Akbar held a meeting on the sidelines of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly. The two Ministers highlighted the bilateral relations and the positive dynamics of co-operation between Georgia and India; once again underlined the importance of bilateral political consultations held at the level of Foreign Ministries on August in Tbilisi, the second session of Georgia-India intergovernmental commission; and focused on the significant results achieved in the spheres of trade, investments, transport, culture and people-to-people relations. M. J. Akbar underlined the important economic and business reforms in Georgia.
The two Ministers gave a positive assessment to the enhancement of economic co-operation between the countries; in particular, they put special emphasis on the successful co-operation in the sphere of film industry, according to MFA of Georgia.
Particular emphasis was put on Georgia’s transit role. In this context, M. J. Akbar underlined that Georgia is a country connecting the Persian Gulf and the Black Sea in the transport corridor.
The two Foreign Ministers also discussed a new practice of co-operation existing between Georgia and India in the spheres of education and culture, expressing readiness to co-operate with a view to developing the relations and to exchanging high-level visits.
Mikheil Janelidze welcomed the Indian Government’s intention to open the embassy in Georgia.
