Mikheil Janelidze will appear with a speech before the National Assembly

The FINANCIAL — As part of his official visit to France, Georgian Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze held a meeting  with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly Élisabeth Guigou. The sides noted with satisfaction the friendly relations and partnership between the two countries.

Élisabeth Guigou congratulated Mikheil Janelidze on the European Parliament’s decision taking special note of Georgia’s success on the path of European integration. According to her France keeps a close watch over the ongoing reforms and developments in Georgia.  The Georgian Foreign Minister, for his part, expressed his thanks to the French National Assembly for its ratification of the Association Agreement and for its support of Georgia’s European integration.

Discussions during the meeting also focused on the security situation in the region, including in Georgia’s occupied territories. The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee reaffirmed France’s strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity emphasizing that France like any other Member State of the EU finds inadmissible any attempt to disregard the principle of inviolability of borders, as well as Russia’s actions in Georgia and Ukraine.

Talking points also included high-level co-operation in the areas of defence and security. Élisabeth Guigou thanked Georgia  for making its own contribution towards strengthening international security and reaffirmed the importance of Georgia’s participation in the peacekeeping operations in the Central African Republic and Mali.

The sides expressed their readiness to further deepen co-operation in economy, tourism, infrastructure, agriculture and other sectors, according to MFA of Georgia.

Mikheil Janelidze invited the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly to Georgia. Élisabeth Guigou, for her part, thanked Mikheil Janlidze for his visit  putting high value on his upcoming public appearance before the National Assembly on 8 February.
