The FINANCIAL — Within the framework of his visit to Georgia, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai held his first meeting with Georgian Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani.
According to him, discussions focused on the results of the NATO Ministerial in Brussels where the Georgian Foreign Minister made very clear messages regarding Georgia’s integration with NATO.
“The aim of my arrival is the preservation of the positive political dynamic between Georgia and the EU and to summarise the recent NATO Ministerial where the Georgian foreign minister made clear messages and calls regarding Georgia’s NATO membership. We discussed NATO-Georgia bilateral relations at the meeting. Minister Zalkaliani made a very powerful statement at the Ministerial about the intention and determination of Georgia to work towards NATO membership, to carry out necessary reforms and to make contributions to international security. I believe that the Georgian people will see more NATO in Georgia next year. Herewith, of course, we should work for concrete outcomes. For instance, the implementation of effective reforms and strengthening of democratic processes,” Appathurai said.
NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative paid a visit to Georgia on 12 December. He will hold meetings with the Prime Minister of Georgia, President of Georgia, and Minister of Defence. James Appathurai will also deliver a public lecture at the Information Center on NATO and EU, as well as for students at various universities of Georgia.
