“Today’s meeting is a clear proof of the tremendous support Georgia enjoys. Georgia is viewed as a country which tends to be at the leading-edge of reforms among other countries of the Eastern Partnership. Georgia is a front-runner in many directions and this should be duly reflected in the Riga Declaration. It was emphasised at the meeting that we should continue co-operation at all levels to ensure that the success of the Eastern Partnership Programme and its serious outcomes are duly registered and highlighted, especially against background of the complicated situation that exists on the European continent” – Tamar Beruchashvili is quoted as saying following the meeting.
The meeting in Luxembourg was held at the initiative of Slovakia. The Slovak Foreign Minister highly appraised the progress Georgia has achieved within the Eastern Partnership Programme. According to him: “Georgia is one of the front-runners, one of the best performing countries in the Eastern Partnership Programme and it was a good opportunity for the Georgian Foreign Minister to present the progress that the country has made, steps that have been adopted and expectations from the Riga Summit. She made a strong point particularly with regard to visa liberalisation. On our side, after listening to her presentation, High Representative Mogherini and Commissioner Hann and a number of foreign ministers intervened appreciating all the efforts and paying attention to things that are important from our perspective. I think the meeting was a clear recognition of a good work done by your government in implementing political association and economic integration with the European Union. At the same time Minister Beruchashvili made a very clear message of the expectations of the Georgian people with regard to visa liberalization”.
