The FINANCIAL — Mobile users in France have jumped on the gaming bandwagon, but they are keeping their wallets closed as they do so.
Lightspeed Research found in March that nine in 10 smartphone and tablet users in France had downloaded a free gaming app, while just 21% had purchased such an app.
Among those who had paid to play mobile games, outlays were generally tiny. As eMarketer announced, lightspeed found that 63% of game purchasers had spent less than €10 ($13.89) on them, including 42% who had spent less than €5 ($6.94).
In the US, eMarketer estimates that revenues from mobile game downloads and in-game purchases make up the bulk of revenues for this mobile content type, with support from advertising contributing a smaller share of the total.
