The FINANCIAL — On 11-12 March, EU High Representative Federica Mogherini visited Ukraine.
She met with Ukrainian authorities and government officials, namely the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, and the Minister for Temporarily Occupied Territories and Internally Displaced Persons, Vadym Chernysh, according to the EU Neighbours portal.
Mogherini said it was her first visit since the Association Agreement and since visa-free travel to Europe for Ukrainian citizens entered into force. “We worked very hard together to achieve these two successes and I think the main message today for us is that we build on these successes, we consolidate results, and we continue to work together as closely as possible, to further strengthen the European Union-Ukraine relationship,” she said.
During the press appearance together with the country’s Prime Minister Groysman, Mogherini reiterated the EU’s support of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well the country’s reform process for the benefit of the citizens. “I would like to express my support, my recognition, my admiration for your determination in moving forward the reform agenda in this country,” she said.
“We have seen a lot of reform progress in very important and necessary sectors. Today, we looked at how these reforms are advancing like we did at the Association Council we jointly chaired in December in Brussels, and that was an extremely positive Council,” Mogherini added.
“The European Union is Ukraine’s partner and strongest supporter in striving to build a stable [and] prosperous democracy and economy. I would like to stress this point, because I know this is essential for the everyday life of Ukrainian citizens,” stressed Mogherini.
While in Ukraine, Mogherini also officially launched a “Moving Forward Together” communication campaign that will be implemented in the country to inform its citizens about the opportunities and benefits of EU-Ukraine cooperation across different fields.
