The FINANCIAL — The Moldovan government has launched a National Forestry Consultancy Office (NFCO) to provide expertise and assistance for improved forest management.
The initiative is the result of cooperation between the government forest agency Moldsilva and the EU-funded FLEG II forestry programme, according to EU Neighbourhood Info Centre.
“The Office’s primary goal is to put in force a unified legal and regulatory framework for all types of forest ownership,” said Fiodor Botnaru, deputy general director of Moldsilva.
“We will continue to further cooperate with Moldsilva and local public administrations… and the new consultancy office will help involve the private sector too in order to work toward sustainable development of all of Moldova’s forest resources,” said Aurel Lozan, FLEG II country coordinator in Moldova.
The €9 million ENPI FLEG II programme deepens reforms in forestry policy, and legal and administrative matters in the sector while carrying out pilot projects, and addressing forest fire and climate issues. It builds upon the achievements of its predecessor, ENPI FLEG I programme.
