The FINANCIAL — The co-rapporteurs for the monitoring of Ukraine by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), who have just arrived in Kyiv at the start of a four-day visit, have strongly condemned the outbreak of violence in the city, in which several deaths have been reported, allegedly by police bullets, and many injured, according to the Parliamentary Assembly.
“We are extremely concerned at reports of violence near the parliament building,” said Mailis Reps (Estonia, ALDE) and Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin (Sweden, EPP/CD). “We appeal to all sides to refrain from actions that could further escalate the situation. We are particularly concerned at reports of attempts to clear the Maidan Square by force. We would remind the authorities that such an action would cross one of the red lines set by the Assembly in its January resolution,” Reps added.
“We are in close contact with both sides, and will continue to follow developments closely.”
