The FINANCIAL — Travel agents in Moscow have stopped selling package holidays to Egypt over fears of violence in the North African country, which has been paralyzed by protests amid a deepening political crisis, according to RIA Novosti.
Anti-government protests continued for the seventh day on Monday in Egypt. At least 150 people have been killed and about 4,000 injured in the riots, Al-Jazeera TV channel earlier reported.
Russian Federal Tourism Agency (Rostourism) warned of the danger of travelling to Egypt and ordered travel agents to stop selling vacations in the country.
"The situation in Egypt is unpredictable and travel agents are not selling any holidays to Egypt," a manager at the Hot Tours operator told RIA Novosti on January 31.
According to Rostourism, at least 40,000 Russian tourists are currently on vacation in Egypt.
