The FINANCIAL — Motorola Inc. (NYSE: MOT) Home and Networks Mobility announced on September 13 that Jiangsu Broadcasting Television Network Corp. Ltd. (JBTN), one of the largest Multi-Service Operators (MSOs) in China, has deployed Motorola’s end-to-end on demand video solution.
The new expansion project enables JBTN to deliver high-performance and cost-effective Video on Demand (VOD) and Time-Shifted TV services to a wider group of subscribers, making Jiangsu one of the largest VOD deployment sites in China.
Motorola will provide its end-to-end VOD solution including the B-1 Video Server, the world’s most widely deployed solid state video server, and the new B-3 Video Server. The solution also includes the TSX1000 On Demand Management Application for VOD back office functions and CPS1000 Content Propagation System to centralize content libraries and reduce storage costs. The expansion project will enable JBTN to deliver high-quality on demand services, such as VOD and Time-Shifted TV services.
Earlier in July, Motorola was also awarded a contract by JBTN to deploy its VOD solution in Kunming city. It is the first inter-provincial project of JBTN in China’s VOD market. With the implementation of these two projects, JBTN can enable a VOD platform that supports the equivalent of 69,000 standard definition video streams.
"These latest milestones demonstrate not only our commitment to enable Chinese cable operators to deliver revenue generating applications and solutions but also the advantages of our end-to-end on demand video solution," said Drina Yue, vice president, Motorola Home and Networks Mobility Regional Management, Asia Pacific. “We are very pleased to continue supporting JBTN to meet the growing needs for personalized media experiences. Because of our proven success in the region, Chinese cable operators have turned to Motorola to enable these services. We are expecting more opportunities in China’s fast growing VOD market. ”
Motorola has been working with JBTN on the VOD deployment in Jiangsu province for more than two years. Following the VOD contract in 2008, this expansion opens a new chapter in the cooperation between Motorola and JBTN. These two projects also reinforce Motorola’s commitment to the China market, where customers for Motorola’s on demand products include four of the country’s largest video providers.
