(NYSE: MOT) on January 12 announced that its new Multi-Media Messaging Service Center (MMSC) is in commercial service providing enhanced mobile media experiences for customers of a leading wireless operator in the U.S. Motorola's MMSC enables media mobility by delivering high quality multi-media messaging service composed of audio, text, pictures and video between different devices, technologies and operators, all over a high availability, carrier grade platform.
Motorola’s next-generation MMSC is an optimal solution to provide growth capacity and leading functionality based on the product’s advanced scalable architecture, high reliability and overall cost effectiveness. Motorola's MMSC transcoding delivers high quality multi-media adaptation capabilities, which result in an unrivalled end user experience. It’s an innovative solution to help Motorola’s operator customers optimize their networks for delivery of personalized, on-demand services and content.
“Like our earlier version, the new MMSC lets wireless customers personalize their media experiences to enjoy pictures, video, and audio content on their devices while connecting to another device to share with friends,” said Dan Aderhold, Motorola Vice President of Business Operations, Verizon Account. “But with the new MMSC platform the operator has increased capacity from less equipment, meaning lower costs and a more efficient network. In addition, the new MMSC incorporates advanced capabilities that facilitate seamless integration with increasingly popular applications such as mobile advertising, social networking and simplified management of user generated content.”

The Motorola next-generation MMSC is built on Advanced Telecommunications Communications Architecture (ATCA). ATCA is a standards-based platform, supporting open operating systems, such as Linux. ATCA is the Motorola common platform of choice for multiple core network applications, including MMSC, transcoding, short message service center (SMSC), short message service gateway (SMS GW), WiMAX access service network (ASN) gateway , LTE wireless broadband controller (WBC) and the new iDEN Melody core solution. Many telecom suppliers have converted to use of the new ATCA technology platforms due to processing power, scalability, simple architecture, small footprint and low power consumption.
