The FINANCIAL — The Parliament of Georgia confirmed on February 8, with 101 votes in favor and 10 votes against, GDDG MP Manana Kobakhidze as the Constitutional Court judge.
Kobakhidze, who was the First Vice Speaker in the previous Parliament, was re-elected in the new parliament through GDDG’s party list, according to Civil.ge.
Kobakhidze’s nomination raised concerns in opposition parties and civil society organizations, who pointed at her political past and argued that her endorsement would “politicize” the Constitutional Court.
One seat in the nine-member Constitution Court has been vacant since September 2016, when the ten-year term of Ketevan Eremadze, who was appointed through parliamentary quota, expired.
