The FINANCIAL — On 25 October, NATO week 2015 opened in Tbilisi with an official ceremony dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the NATO and the EU Information Center. Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili, Head of the NATO Liaison Office in Georgia William Lahue and Georgian Vice Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili addressed the attending audience.
In his speech, Giorgi Kvirikashvili underlined the strong will of the Georgian Government and the Georgian people to join the European and Euro-Atlantic structures, according to MFA of Georgia.
“Georgia’s NATO and EU integration is our return to the European family with whom we are linked to by our common values of democracy, freedom and human rights protection. During its 66-year existence, NATO had proven it was the strongest alliance in the modern world’s history. Being a NATO member would guarantee Georgia’s security and independence,” the Foreign Minister said.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili focused on the Georgian Government’s effort to carry out hard work on its way towards NATO integration. According to the Foreign Minister, Georgia has already carried out many important reforms and has achieved tangible results, inter alia, in the sphere of security.
Giorgi Kvirikashvili thanked the Georgian soldiers for serving in Afghanistan in the NATO-led peacekeeping missions, underlining the importance of the NATO week and activity of the NATO Information Center.
Representatives of the Georgian Government and Parliament, diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, civil society and media, as well as Georgian soldiers who returned after serving in a NATO-led peacekeeping mission attended the opening ceremony.
The NATO week is held for the eighth time in Georgia to inform the Georgian society on the North Atlantic Alliance, Georgia-NATO co-operation mechanisms, prospects and challenges.
