The FINANCIAL — Nestlé Purina is launching the first cat litter in a durable and refillable container in the U.S.
The Tidy Cats LightWeight Free & Clean cat litter is available via Loop, a global shopping platform for foods and household goods aimed at eliminating waste through the use of reusable and refillable packaging.
Cat owners have the opportunity to get the litter in a refillable jug. When finished with the litter, the packaging is collected, cleaned and reused – as part of Loop’s circular shopping system.
“The Tidy Cats expansion to Loop reflects our commitment to delivering innovative products and sustainable solutions that help reduce our environmental impact,” said Diane Herndon, senior manager of sustainability at Purina. “Our teams worked to design and develop new packaging that was durable enough to endure multiple uses and extreme conditions common to eCommerce while also ensuring the great experience that Tidy Cats users know and love.”
Tidy Cats LightWeight Free & Clean litter will initially be available to purchase on Loop’s eCommerce platform in 10 states including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, Rhode Island, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
This partnership is part of Nestlé’s broader set of actions to reduce single-use packaging. It is in line with the company’s commitment to make 100% of its packaging recyclable or reusable by 2025 and reduce its use of virgin plastics by one third in the same time period.
