The FINANCIAL — Effective immediately, Air India is the new carrier offering flight connections between Vienna and Delhi in cooperation with Austrian Airlines. The Star Alliance partner will take off to India’s most important industrial region three times per week.
On the occasion of the initial flight, the new route was officially inaugurated yesterday, April 6th 2016, at a press conference featuring Pankaj Srivastava, Commercial Director and Member of the Board of Air India and Julian Jäger, Member of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG, according to Vienna Airport.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to expand our long-haul offering from Vienna with Air India. This step clearly shows once again that our Star Alliance partners will continue to rely on Vienna as a flight hub in the future” states Julian Jäger, Member of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG.
“Air India is excited about its new non-stop flight between Vienna and Delhi on a Dreamliner aircraft. It offers a lovely option to travel to India and onward to destinations such as Bangkok, Kathmandu, Colombo, Sydney, Melbourne and more. We wish that air travelers from Central and Eastern Europe, when flying to the above-mentioned places, will choose Air India for their travel with Vienna serving as their gateway. We look forward to welcoming them with a ‘Namaskaar’, traditional Indian greeting,” says Pankaj Srivastava, Commercial Director and Member of the Board of Air India.
“This direct flight connection is of major importance for tourism in Vienna. It ensures the ongoing positive development of India as a growth market for tourists coming to Vienna. The number of overnight stays from Indian nationals increased by 61% over the last five years, from 56,000 to 91,000”, explains Norbert Kettner, Director of the Vienna Tourist Board.
Air India operates a Boeing Dreamliner 787-800 on flights taking off from Delhi on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 2 p.m. and landing at 6:45 p.m. in Vienna. The return flight departs from Vienna at 10:45 p.m. and arrives in Delhi at 9:25 a.m. on the next day.
