The FINANCIAL — A new boiler house in the Ukrainian town of Slavutych will use green energy to produce 10.5 MW of energy, satisfying 40% of the town’s heating and hot water needs.
As well as saving money, it is expected that the boiler house will help Slavutych to reduce its consumption of natural gas by 7 million cubic metres. “As a result of these projects, a green energy cluster will be created, and the city of Slavutych will be able to completely abandon the use of natural gas in housing and communal services,” said Ivan Nadein, founder of the Ukrteplo group, owner of the biofuel boiler house.
The relevant Memorandum of Cooperation between the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, the Slavutych City Council and the Ukrteplo Group of Companies was signed on 20 November. The document is implemented within the framework of the EU supported “Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy” initiative, according to EU Neighbours East Info.
The Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects (CoM-DeP) programme is a European Union programme in the Eastern Partner countries which supports small towns that have signed up to the Covenant of Mayors initiative to implement energy efficiency projects identified within their Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPs), with grants as well as technical assistance. The support team of the CoM-DeP provides grants to 19 selected projects, as well as technical, procedural and communication assistance.
