The FINANCIAL — On 14th and 15th of November, 2014 Tbilisi hosted first International Educational Conference and Master-Classes in Modern Approaches in Sudden Cardiac Death Prevention and Chronic Heart Failure Treatment. Event was organized with the support of European and Georgian Heart Rhythm Associations as well as the Medtronic, the global leader in medical technologies.
During the conference the President of the Georgian Heart Rhythm Association Mr. Giorgi Papiashvili, professor from Slovakia Dr. Robert Hatala and professor Josef Kautzner from Czech Republic presented the latest achievements in fighting against the sudden cardiac death, the methods of prevention, experience of Western Europe and developing approaches for prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death in the Georgian healthcare system.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of deaths in the world. Every year, an estimated 17 million people die globally of cardiovascular diseases, particularly heart attacks and strokes. According to the World Health Organization, cardio vascular disease accounts for 69% of all deaths in Georgia each year.
“Georgia is among the countries where cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death with arrhythmia playing a leading role. Cardiovascular diseases cause more deaths in Georgia than any other diseases combined. We are pleased to see a very close collaboration of the European and Georgian Hearth Rhythm Associations as well as the leading manufacturers of medical devices in in training and education of local physicians and developing access to the advanced therapy solutions that will aid Georgia in combating this disease and save many lives,” says Alexander Aladashvili, the president of the Georgian Society of Cardiology.
Mr. Papiashvili, the President of the Georgian Heart Rhythm Association underscored importance of the event which provided new learning opportunities for Georgian professionals in the area of new therapies in preventing sudden cardiac death and treating chronic heart failure. Mr. Papiashvili added that: “The clinical community of cardiovascular specialists in Georgia is increasingly excited about the prospects of bringing new cardio vascular technologies to Georgia, training physicians in different parts of the country and saving lives of many patients in need.”.
During the international conference different plenary educational secessions and master classes were provided by the experts and professors from Georgia and different Western European countries. Georgian doctors and specialists working in the field got comprehensive information about the new technologies, introduced with the best international practices of echocardiography in cardiac resynchronization therapy and solutions already adapted by European Heart Rhythm Association.
Educational Conference concluded with three different master classes and educational sessions led by physicians, doctors and professionals from the USA, Slovakia, Kazakhstan, Russia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Switzerland and Germany.
Event provided excellent opportunity to bridge cross country experience in modern therapies for chronic heart failure, provided opportunity to discuss current global trends of cardiovascular diseases and contributed to greater networking among Georgian physicians and its international colleagues, addressing the challenges and impact of the cardio vascular diseases in Georgia through strengthening national health system, bringing advanced technologies to the country, improving access to the latest therapies and helping to improve and save lives of many Georgian patients.
