The FINANCIAL — With September school holidays just around the corner, families travelling internationally from Sydney Airport’s T1 will be entertained with recently installed free, new and dynamic game technology.
The interactive Australian Rules themed ‘Virtual Kick-Off’ and colourful ‘The Cubby House’ activations harness digital augmentation and touchscreen technology encouraging kids to experience the new games in a physically interactive way, according to Sydney Airport.
“Sydney Airport is working to improve the experience of all our passengers including our youngest,” Sydney Airport managing director and chief executive officer Kerrie Mather said.
“Our new and exciting interactive games will entertain families during the busy September school holiday period.
“Whether it’s kicking a winning goal, or exploring the lively and animated world of a modern cubby house, we’re encouraging kids and families to enjoy our new technology before their flight.
“With the upcoming AFL finals, I’m sure we’ll have a few of our smaller passengers enthralled by the uniquely Australian kicking game, although I won’t be surprised if there’ll be a few adults wanting to get involved in the fun too.”
‘Virtual Kick-Off’ is located beyond customs on level two Departures Pier B and uses augmented reality so kids can use their legs, hands and even their arms to manoeuvre a virtual ball through the four goal posts.
Met with cheers from the virtual crowd, players stepping onto the grass carpet will be captivated by the sound of the referee’s whistle and transported into the world of an Australian Rules stadium.
For competitive types, the leaderboard keeps track of the best kicks, with encouraging messages displayed on-screen. In keeping with an authentic footy experience, virtual low, medium and high winds will challenge even the best ‘kicker’.
‘The Cubby House’ includes a choice of three adventures: ‘Na – nah!’, ‘Band Room’ and ‘Balloon Pop’ on a large, bespoke touchscreen located beyond customs on level two Departures Pier C.
Energetic music will inspire kids to touch cute, animated animals in a modern version of tag, pop as many colourful balloons as they can and help a band play their funky drum, guitar and tambourine.
