The FINANCIAL — According to Civil Georgia, shortlist of candidates for the public TV 9-member board of trustee is expected to be unveiled after consultations with the opposition no later than February 27, Nino Burjanadze, the parliamentary speaker, said on February 25.
“We want to agree on candidates who will reflect confidence of both the authorities and the opposition. Then it is desirable to agree on both, board chairman and a general director of the public TV,” Burjanadze said.
The shortlist of 27 persons should be selected from the list of a total of 235 applicants. The Parliament then has to approve nine from the short-listed candidates. The board will then elect a new general director, replacing Tamar Kintsurashvili. Burjanadze said that in case of an agreement with the opposition shortlist of candidates would be unveiled “tomorrow, or at least day after tomorrow.”
A meeting between the opposition and the ruling party negotiators is expected to take place later on February 25.
Politicians from the nine-party opposition coalition said that they have selected some of the candidates, whom they want to see in the public TV board, but they refrain at this stage to reveal their favorite candidates.
