The FINANCIAL — Victoria has a new connection to Singapore with the arrival on November 1 of the inaugural direct flight by Scoot Airlines between Melbourne and Singapore.
Scoot will fly to Melbourne five times a week using its Boeing 787 Dreamliner, providing further impetus for leisure and business travel between the two cities. There will be daily flights during the December – January peak season. Scoot flight, TZ022, arrives from Singapore at 11.00am, and TZ021 departs from Melbourne at 12.15pm.
Travel between Melbourne and Singapore grew by more than 4 per cent during 2014/15, and the inbound market has grown by an average of almost 10 per cent per annum over the past five years, according to Melbourne Airport.
Melbourne is an important destination for holiday-makers from Singapore, making up 54 per cent of the inbound passenger market, compared to 19 per cent for business, and 7 per cent for education-related travel.
The new Scoot service will be a boost for international visitation to Victoria from Singapore and other Asian markets that are connected through the Scoot network.
The new flights also provide new opportunities for travel to Singapore and beyond for Victorians, further strengthening Melbourne Airport’s position as Australia’s premier international aviation gateway.
